Secretary/Treasurer LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 2006
The Legislative Committee presented its proposals to the club at the Annual Meeting in Austin, April 28, 2006. The following was approved by the club: #1 – Dues “The amount of dues shall be changed by amendment only.” #2 – Duties of Board of Directors “The Board of Directors shall validate the rules, adopted by the Tournament Committee, of the Annual Tournament of the 500 Club. The 500 Club Tournament shall be under the direction of the Tournament Director and Tournament Committee.” #3 - Tournament “All tournaments shall be under the direction of the Tournament Committee. We have also completed the codification of the state and national titles: Texas Women’s Bowling Association to Texas State USBC Association, and Women’s International Bowling Congress to United States Bowling Congress Copies of these changes will be available at our Annual Meeting in 2007 – so come and get your copy and attend the meeting! We welcome your interest in the club rules and need your input. Thank you Collen Gore – Chair Jeanette Bradfield Betty McPhaill Pasadena 500-600 Club By Peg Hilgin The Pasadena 500-600 Club Annual meeting was held Sunday August 20, 2006. We always have lots of food, door prizes and fun. This year we will not be able to host our Annual Halloween No Tap Fun Tournament because our Pasadena USBC is hosting the Texas Mixed Tournament during that time. Instead we are planning to use the same format, have it in November and have proceeds go to The Bridge. We are also going to open it to men for the good of this cause.
At the previous meeting, we had a member that had shot one 600, 23 years ago, that requested to be re-rated back to a 500 member. We changed our policy to allow any 600 member who had not had a 600 in the last 10 years to petition the board to be re-rated. 2006 Scholarship Awards Texas 500 Club Peg Hilgen This year we gave were able to give 2 scholarships to very deserving high school seniors, one male and one female. We only received four applications from the entire state of Texas, make sure you nominate an eligible bowler next year. We appreciate the support we get during the state meetings, without all of your donations to the raffle tickets we would not be able to continue our scholarship program. Our 1st male recipient was Eston McCrea Dilworth of Austin. Eston is a very nice young man that was a pleasure to meet. Eston has been involved in the Austin Youth Program for six years and has a current average of 200. He has worked at Dart Bowl as a lane attendant for three years. He graduated from McCallum High School May 29, 2006 with a scholastic average of 89. Eston has applied to Wichita State, Central Missouri State, Pikeville, University of Houston, and UTSA. All of these universities have collegiate bowling teams and he wishes to bowl with one of them and study Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Music Technology. After college he plans to bowl PBA and be the first African American to win a televised championship and acquire professional position in his field of study. COMING SOON!! OUR 4th ANNUAL MAIL-O-GRAPHIC TOURNAMENT. Be on the lookout in your mailbox for information on upcoming tournament in February 2007. Updates will also be posted on www.bowlarama.com. If we have your email address look for an entry form to arrive sometime in January. For more information contact me, Jana Reed at jkreed@tarrantcounty.com, or the 500 club office. Our second recipient, Maria-Bethlehem Pal-Laya, could not attend our meeting because of conflicting school activities. We were so anxious to greet our first ever El Paso recipient. Maria has been bowling for only three and a half years but has reached an average of 150. Her scholastic average is 90 and above. Maria wants to be a doctor, her ambition is to make herself and everyone around her happy, and her goal in life is to find truth in all things. She wants to attend an educational institution that encourages students to arrive at their own conclusions and major in biology. Currently, Maria’s father is attending graduate school for his degree in mathematics and her family is supporting a medical student and two college students, relatives in the Philippines so our award is very much needed to help Maria continue with her education. We thank all that applied for these scholarships and wish them all the best. Keep in touch. We enjoy hearing from you all. TOURNAMENT REPORT 2006 - SAN ANTONIO
Another year of tournament has come and gone! San Antonio was a fun place to bowl and their people were fun to work with. We had lots of fun and certainly appreciate the San Antonio gals for their support. We would like to express a special thanks to Helen Kalala for her time and energy spent working the registration table for us! She was a gift and was deeply appreciated!! Thanks to all of you that participated this year. It is always good to see old friends and to make new ones! It is because of your interest that we are able to offer this tournament each year! We had a total of 754 entries (down from last year) and 58 new members joining the club. The majority of you pay your club dues at tournament site each year, making it convenient to stay current. We appreciate your interest in the club and the tournament! We had lots of good comments on our “Yellow Rose of Texas” nightshirts this year. Everyone seemed to like the embroidery. We have some of these left if you would like to purchase one (or some). If anyone has an idea for a nightshirt design, please let us know and we will be glad to consider it.

TEXAS 500 CLUB BY JANA REED Summer ATL article Greetings, we hope everyone is having a fine hot Texas summer. State Tournament is over now and we hope that everyone that wanted to bowl the 500 Club side event was able to participate. Final standings should be posted by July 31, 2006 on www.bowlarama.com. We had a new nightshirt this year, black with a yellow rose embroidered on the front, if you didn’t get one at the tournament and would like to have one please contact Collen Gore at cgore1297@sbcglobal.net, she will make sure you get one. We held our Annual meeting on April 28, 2006 at the Omni Hotel in Austin. Here are some highlights: Adna Clevenger was awarded Member Emeriti and was presented with a plaque and new membership card. Adna gave many years of service to our club and we wish her all the best in her future adventures. Each year we award a scholarship to a deserving bowler who is a High School Senior and as we were a Women’s organization we always awarded this to a female student, well this year we decided in the interest of unity, to give two scholarships, one to a male and one to a female. Our first ever male recipient of the Texas 500 Club scholarship award was Eston Dilworth of Austin, he was a very nice young man and very appreciative of the help we were giving him to be able to attend college. His mother should be very proud of him; he was a pleasure to meet. Our female recipient this year was Maria-Bethlehem Pal-Laya from El Paso, the first winner we have had from that far corner of Texas. She was not able to attend our meeting due to conflicts with school activities but we heard many nice things about her and all of her hard work towards achieving her goals. Congratulations to both of these fine young citizens on all of their accomplishments, their futures are very bright. The meeting was a great success with our elections taking place and some legislative changes being discussed. The results of the election were Ellen White-President, Collen Gore-Sgt-at-Arms, Jeanette Bradfield, Betty Williams and Veta Bruce as directors. We also held our annual raffle for 2-$100.00 bills, the winners this year were Ellen White and Jeri Shaw, Sylvia Broyles won the drawing for a free entry into next years tournament, and Cheryl Ross, Carol Gomillion, Adna Clevenger, Beverly Cordray, and Lora Stevens all won door prizes. If you bowled our tournament in Austin we asked you for your email address, that is because the 500 club newsletter is going electronic, look for the Fall issue in your inbox sometime in September, we will still snail mail the first issue and to those that don’t have email to make sure everyone gets the news but we hope to convert as many as possible to email by next year. If you didn’t bowl and would like to receive your newsletters by email just send me a message jkreed@tarrantcounty.com and I will get you added to the list. Have a safe and fun summer! |
