Staying with San
Antonio's theme of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" the TWBW Board of Directors
dressed accordingly, entering the meeting room in Munchkin attire to the tune of
"Ding Dong The Witch is Dead". Glenda the good witch was represented by
Jan Bacon, President. The Munchkin mayor was portrayed by Cheryl Ross, Secretary
Treasurer. The lollipop kids, town ladies and a munchkin flower also greeted the
members and guests in attendance. It's been said that some come to the meeting just
to see what the board will do next!
Jan Bacon, President of TWBW opened the 30th annual meeting with greetings to all
members and guests present. A special welcome was extended to the newest TWBA Hall
of Fame inductee, Mona Loper and Sylvia Broyles was congratulated on receiving the
NWBW Jo Ettien Lieber Award, for distinguished service to the game of American tenpins.

The Magistrate of Munchkin Land, Cheryl Ross, Secretary, then sang part of her report,
to everyones' surprise and delight. The rest of the committee reports followed. Sharon
Creagor, Web Link committee chairman, had a list of the countries and states that
visited Bowlarama in May only. Places like Australia, Bermuda, Switzerland, and several
states in this country. This has really been impressive. If you have not visited
the web site, please do so at www.bowlarama.com.
Writing contest chairman, Ann Powell, announced the 1997/98 winners of the Texas
Women Bowling Writers contests. Ann mentioned the time the judges put into this and
expressed a big THANK You for their efforts. The winner of the ATL category went
to Pat Waller of Temple. The Newsletter of the Year award was given to Fort Worth's
"Ten Pin Tidbits", with special mention for Amarillo's "Ten Pin Highlights".
Mary Burns of Fort Worth earned Writer of the Year for her article in ATL Fall/Winter
1998 issue, "The Great Whiteout".
TWBW honored Rey Costa of San Antonio with a Certificate of Appreciation. Rey was
unable to attend because of a previous engagement. He will receive his award at a
later date from former TWBW board member, Gail Cantu. The TWBW Wood Award for Excellence
went to Lin "Captain Eddie" Lesak of 93Q radio in Houston. Captain Eddie
was also unable to attend. It was announced that Sharon Creagor and Adna Clevenger
would present the award in Houston.

for the past nine years. She announced she was not seeking re-election. Elections
followed and Syleta Halbert was elected to the office of President. Jeanne Hester
and Ellen Goss were re-elected to their positions as Sergeant-at-Arms and Director#1.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board of Directors presented Jan with a special
gift in recognition of her many years of dedicated and effective leadership. Life
Members, Beverly McLendon and Mary Burns then joined each of the Board members in
presenting her with individual flowers representing their affection and esteem.
