Annual Meeting
The annual breakfast meeting of TWBW was held June 8 in Lubbock. Sporting hula
skirts, flowered bras and bright Hawaiian shirts, the TWBW Board of Directors welcomed
attendees to "Paradise on the Plains".
Life Member and TWBA President Beverly McLendon offered the invocation. TWBW president,
Syleta Halbert, then welcomed members and guests.
Ellen Goss, TWBW Sgt.-at-Arms was recognized for her third place win in the annual
NWBW photography contest, as was Susie Minshew of the Ft. Worth WBA who had been
honored at the WIBC annual meeting with the Joyce Deitch Trailblazer Award.
Poster judges Barbara Woolridge, Twila Moon and Donna Dillon had a difficult time
picking the winners this year. There were a number of beautiful and inventive posters.
When all the scores were tallied, the winners were: Association Category; 1. San
Antonio 2. Amarillo 3. Montgomery County Tournament Category; 1. Montgomery County
2. Hidalgo County 3. Texas City / La Marque. Each of the associations who had entries
are to be congratulated for their efforts.
TWBW Secretary/Treasurer Cheryl Ross presented her report, the Acts of the Board
and the financial report.
Standing Committee reports were as follows:
Audit; Chairman, Louise Manglesdorf reported that the books of TWBW are true
and accurate.
Budget; Chairman Helen Kalala presented the proposed budget for 2001-2002
and moved that it be accepted by the membership. Her motion was seconded by Veta
Bruce and carried.
Certificate of Appreciation; Chairman Jeanne Hester announced that Norma Beauchamp
of Lubbock had been chosen as this yearís recipient of this prestigious award. Normaís
support of bowlers and bowling have been well known in the Lubbock area for many
years and we were pleased to share her accomplishments with all of our members.
News and Views; Building on our theme for this year, Jeanne, who is also chairman
of this committee told a story of how to create a bowling "paradise" by
erupting with fires of enthusiasm.
Newsletter; Gail Cantu stated that she was happy to be back on the TWBW board
and thoroughly enjoying her position as editor of our newsletter. She also asked
that ideas and information for any issue be forwarded to her.
Ways and Means; Chairman, Adna Clevenger reported that TWBW will be conducting
two raffles during the coming months. An afghan, made by Cheryl Ross will be given
away at next yearís meeting as well as a small TV- VCR, designed for use in an automobile.
Tickets are available from any TWBW board member.
Membership; Ellen Goss noted that letters had been sent out to those who had
failed to renew their memberships and encouraged each of us to recruit at least one
new member for this year.
Writing Contests; Chairman Ann Powell announced the winners in this yearís
contests. The ATL Award for the best Association Highlights piece went to the Beaumont
WBA, Phyllis Vasquez, publicity chairman.
Newsletter of the Year honors went to the Amarillo WBA for their publication.,
Tenpin Highlights. Editor of the newsletter is Carol Lawhead.
Regina Loveall of Amarillo was named TWBW Writer of the Year.
The two officers and one director whose terms expired this year were all re-elected
by acclamation. They are President, Syleta Halbert, St-at-Arms, Ellen Goss and Director
#1, Liz Latham.
Liz then explained to those in attendance that one person at each table had been
given an orange lei ,and that that person would be allowed to take home the table
centerpiece.
Following a brief story from the president the meeting was adjourned.
